Company History
Roger Hales established Hales Freight in 1975 in Liverpool. Roger
is based in Bilston and oversees the UK operations.
Francis Egan became a director of the company in 1990. Francis is
based in Dublin and oversees the Irish operations.
The business was first set up to carry fruit and vegetables from
the Liverpool Fruit markets over to Ireland.
As time progressed it became clear that the fruit industry was
changing. The large supermarkets carried their own goods and consequently
the fruit markets around the country suffered.
However, during the course of day-to-day operations, it had become
evident that other businesses needed their goods transporting
over to Dublin.
It was therefore decided that the company should diversify and
start hauling all different kinds of goods over to Ireland.
In order to do this more efficiently, a depot in Dublin was soon
established and goods were consolidated from there.
As the business grew and in order that all of the UK could be
serviced, it was decided that a further depot to be opened in
the Midlands. We now have a well established depot in Bilston
that has been running for some years.
The latest depot to be opened is our Harlow depot; this services
the Southern part of the UK.
As the trade in fruit and vegetables has altered immensely over
the past twenty years, the company finds itself no longer carrying
this commodity in large quantities and is therefore concentrating
on other goods.
