Australia.
Make
sure you have carried out research on the places you hope to visit as
some parts of Australia have different cultures. The country is English
speaking.
A warning to women travellers is the stereotypical 'Aussie' male attitudes
the further you get from civilisation.
How much cash:
At present Australia has a good exchange rate. It is a good idea to
take a recognised credit card, for example 'American Express' or 'MasterCard'.
Travellers cheques can be used to pay for hostels, food and toiletries.
Where to stay:
Hostels and camp sites are the cheapest places to stay. The average
prices for a hostels are between £5 to £15, although in
the city the prices are likely to rise. Dormitories range between 4-8
people in a bedroom.
Research hostels before embarking in travel.
Thailand.
Stay
away from the mopeds if you have no insurance and you have never rode
one before, as they are dangerous. Do not travel alone and travel with
a friend or relative who you get along with, as you will be living in
each other's pockets for the duration.
How much cash:
You could spend a month travelling Thailand on a budget of a minimum
of £700. The plane fare is probably the most expensive part of
the journey. Prices can range from £350 to £500. If you
want to stay in a backpacker's hostel it will cost about £3 a
night, but if you prefer a bit of luxury then you could be spending
about £10 a night, which is very cheap. It is important to travel
with the right person to make travelling a truly enjoyable experience.
Where to stay:
Bangkok is relatively cheap and can cost 15 to 20 pounds to stay in
a luxury hotel. Backpacker's hostels are not so nice, but are okay if
you are prepared to share with all types of people. If you visit the
Islands then stay in a beach hut, which cost 2 pounds per night. This
is excellent value.
