you to be vaccinated before entering the country.
The main essential item for backpacking is of course your backpack!
The most common size backpack is 80 litres.
Some items depend on the part of Australia you are visiting and the
time of year. If you are planning a trip to the central and northern
parts of the country sun tan lotion is a must.
Basic first aid kit, toiletries, money and travellers cheques are also
an essential part of travelling.
Thailand.
Mosquito
repellent, first aid kit, lots of swimming costumes and bikinis as you
will spend most of the day wearing this if you go to the Islands. Shorts,
good, light walking shoes that you can walk in and go to the beach in.
Going out clothes for the evening. Insurance is vital. It is best to
take as little as possible as there are laundry facilities available
at the accommodation on the island.
Europe.
For
a camping expedition the most essential piece of equipment is a sturdy
reliable tent that would be tough in all weathers. A lightweight tent
is probably the best option for backpacking.
Other essential items are a train timetable, money and a well-recognised
credit card in case of emergencies.
New
York.
It
is important that you carry your passport or a photocopy about with
you, preferably in a bum bag that you can strap around your waist.
A map is also useful to stop you from getting lost. If you go during
the winter then pack some extra warm clothing as it is very cold. If
you are going in the summer New York can very hot and humid so bring
a handheld fan. It is quite expensive so bring a sufficient amount of
money.
Student Discounts.
The International Student Discount Card (ISEP) is widely
recognised around the world, including the countries mentioned above.
This acts in the same way as an NUS card, allowing the user various
discounts.
