Ko
Tau is a beautiful island that means Turtle Island, Ko, meaning island
and Tau, meaning turtle.
This is a fantastic Island to experience splendid waterfalls, diving,
beautiful reefs, snorkelling and fishing with a friendly welcome and
a range of restaurants and bars for travellers who want a mix of culture,
adventure and western comforts. I found this was picturesque and it
gave me the opportunity to relax and see mother nature at its finest.
For the traveller who is looking for a natural paradise with no spoils
from western culture than Ko Pagn Nagn is the perfect island for relaxation,
reflection and experiencing the Thai culture. This was one of the best
parts of my journey as I felt that I had found my own desert island
far away from the rat race awaiting me back home.

Ko
Samui can be considered the backpackers haven. This island offers travellers
the luxury of western culture and local culture. Ko Samui is famous
for it's full moon parties, all night raves that have been very popular
with backpackers. This would be ideal for the party animals. The other
side of this island is peaceful and less commercialised, which is perfect
for relaxing and sunbathing.
There are many more islands to explore. One of the Islands is home to
where 'The Beach' was filmed, but the Thailand authorities have now
closed it down. The film crew and the many tourists that came to the
island were destroying the natural habitat of the island. Although this
is no longer accessible there are many more unspoiled paradise islands
to explore in that location.
One great way to see the beauty of the islands is to hire a moped, which
will cost £2 a day. This provides quick and easy transport, but
the rider must take care as many moped accidents occur on the Islands.
I had an accident that meant a visit to the Island's small surgery.
I then had to go back to the main land hospital. In my mind I had stereotyped
the medical services, but I was proven wrong. The hospitals are very
clean and efficient, with little waiting time. This is evident in the
way the doctors and nurses cared for me after the accident.
Although you may have no intentions in involving yourself in an activities
it is important to receive insurance before you venture to Thailand
as it can be expensive and if medical attention is needed you should
receive the care and attention in a safe, clean environment.
This is a holiday for the independent person who is willing to step
out of their comfort zones.
